South Deck took inspiration from the small fishing deck beside Kinkaku-ji Temple. Design elements like the building's long spanning beams and open structure were mimicked to ensure visual harmony. Also the glass allowed for both diffused natural and artificial light to gently illuminate the bus stop in the day and night.

This work was selected as the 1st Runner-up for Nanyang Technological University's Academic Building South Bus Stop Competition, panelled by the firm of Pritzker Award winning architect Toyo Ito. The building is slated to be one of the largest Mass Engineered Timber buildings in Asia, and the university intended for its bus stop to be made of the same material.
